The CHF Story…

A Need Was Identified.

  • Dream it.

California Housing Foundation was started in 1998 by the leadership of Inland Regional Center. Their goal was to create an organization that would support the regional center in their mission of providing services that allow for the greatest independence and choice to those whom they serve. In the time since its founding, CHF has expanded geographically to serve individuals who receive regional services across the state.

  • Build it.

Through the careful leadership of its founding board members, CHF decided to focus on the development of housing. Responding to the need for homes that could be modified to create licensed settings for individuals with significant needs who required licensed care. CHF now owns homes in the catchment area of the northernmost and the southernmost regional centers, and many in between.

  • Grow it.

CHF continues to focus on the goal of supporting residents to live in the most independent setting of their choice. CHF’s current leadership, in response to recognition of a need, has begun developing affordable housing for people seeking to live independently while they learn the skills to be successful. To that end, the organization has begun strategically acquiring properties near California community colleges with programs serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
